On Thursday 15th June, the Roundhouse in London will play host to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Summit 2017 accommodating guests from across the Foundation’s network of business, academia and government. The 2017 Summit explores one of today’s crucial unknowns – the future of economic growth and prosperity. What do we know? Collectively we are facing global population growth, unprecedented urbanisation, and an increase in demand from emerging markets. The shopping list of challenges to the current system is long: under-employment, low growth, discontent, inequality, resource depletion and environmental degradation. Exponential growth in digital technologies question employment as we know it, and reveal previously unimaginable ways to use resources and create value.
We don’t fully understand the implications of these forces: how and when will they play out? What will their impact be? What opportunities will they offer? Business, policy, and education leaders navigating this space are faced with profound questions. As part of the Foundation's wider Summit, access is now open to the final session, Designing a New Prosperity, with media theorist, author, documentarian, and world-renowned public intellectual Douglas Rushkoff.
