Glad that you got your problem solved. I've also got an acer 1916w, and have yet to display its native resolution. I'm using a SIS 760 on board graphics processor, but it cannot display 1440x900. Using the SIS utility program its just not in the list of choices so i am having to use 1152x864. If anyone can help then please let me know. My pc is an Asus T2-AE1, the Asus website has not given me any help apart from the occasional update for the SIS760 grpahics which is what is what the pc came with.
Hi i am having problems aswell i have a VIA/S3G unichrome igp videocard. And i cant get the resolution to 1440x900. The max he gives is 12.x7., what ever, i find it rather sad that i can not fix it, not even with a program i found on another forum, powerstrip.
If this cannot be fixed then i did not had to buy this monitor because my old one can do exactly the same!! Can anyone help me please???? Because on the acer site and on the VIA site i cannot find any updates or patches for my videocard. Please help me!!!! For those having problems getting the AL1916W to display at 1440 x 900, the solution is to download and install the monitor driver on the Acer site.
Make sure you download the AL1916W driver and not the AL1916. Once you've downloaded and installed the driver, and assuming your graphics card can handle the resolution, you will then be able to select the proper resolution in Windows (at least if you're using XP - not sure if there are drivers for other operating systems) This is the approach I took and all is working for me. You can install the monitor driver from the 'Monitor' tab under the 'Advanced' configuration section of Windows 'Display Properties.' Just in case there's a policy here against deep-linking, I am posting the download link separately below.
Hey guys I too am having trouble with one of these monitors. I'm running it on a HP d530 WinXP Pro SP2 P4 2.66 512MB. The graphics chip is a Intel 82865G with latest driver 6. Installed & I've also installed the Acer driver from the link above.
The highest resolution available to me is 1280 x 768 and before I installed the Acer driver, the monitor was being detected as a default monitor. Unfortunately the budget Intel graphics hasn't got a custom resolution setting (that I can find). Now, I'm sure I've installed this exact same monitor on another HP running the same graphics chipset, but all I had to do was upgrade the video driver & it just detected the native resolution of the plug & play monitor. Funnily enough, this computer is on a KVM & the other computer connected to it is a dx6120 with an Intel 82915G graphics chip. The monitor runs at it's native res. But is detected as a plug & play monitor in device manager.
I'm thinking the d530 is in need of a reinstall but if anyone has a suggestion I'm all ears. I got my al1916w delivered today from amazon.co.uk for £139.99 and it really is a fantastic monitor for the price. I've got it linked up to my 360 and my old browsing desktop with a vga switcher, the 360 looks great on it but my old desktop isnt looking so hot. My old desktop is a four year old duron 1300 with sis integrated graphics, i cant select the native 1440 x 900 resolution for this monitor. I've installed the new drivers for my sis integrated graphics and the monitor as detailed in this thread and it now offers some higher resolutions but no widescreen 1440 x 900!:x I think i'll have to trawl ebay for an old pci graphics card but how do i know whats compatible with my old duron and do any older pci graphics cards output 1440 x 900 resolution?
I'd really appreciate any advice. Umm, just seen the last post on this topic was in December.
I've just bought the ACER 1916W and, after speaking with technician on their support desk, that it could be my graphics card as I'm getting 'No Signal' - I have a nVIDIA GeFORCE 7300GS - is it a case of getting a newer one (I note those with lower cards seem not to have a problem though), newer drivers for the card (any links to where to find them will be appreciated) or will just the monitor driver do (I've downloaded it, but cannot find where to install it manually in the Control Panel)? Well, the laws in your country must establish the term till which you can take the purchase back to the store. It called money-back, and here (in Ukraine) it amounts two weeks. The other way you can try is to find out whether you have on AGP port in your motherboard. If you have, you can buy or ask friends for any cheap graphics card starting even from GeForce MX400 (they seems to have compability with 16:10 ratio) and higher, get it to your AGP port, connect monitor cable to this card and enjoy 1440x900. I believe this problem is due to a fault in the monitor. I work for a company who has just bought 80 identical PCs and 80 AL1916W monitors.
We used the same ghost image on each PC and out of the 80 we bought, 4 of them had this problem. I have been in contact with Acer who advised me to return them under their RMA policy.
My advice to you home users - Replace them if possible. Even if you are lucky enough to have hardware that can be forced to its native resolution, you still have a faulty product. I am also having problems with these monitors, slightly different to the ones listed above. We are using 4 of these monitors in my office on Dell Latitude D430 laptops each an Intel Express Chipset 945 Graphics Card. The monitors had been working perfectly for about a month - the resolution was found automatically, appeared in graphics options and we had no problems. Then suddenly we switched on the laptops one day and the 1440 x 900 resolution had disappeared from the graphics options.
The monitors now display the incorrect resolution. I have tried everything I can think of to bring back the correct resolution. I've tried downloading the most up to date graphics driver, chipset driver and BIOS from the Dell website, downloading new 1916W drivers from the ACER website - nothing has worked. Acer maintain its a software issue and won't exchange the monitors, our IT tech guys say it's an issue with the hardware and I am stuck in the middle!
Can anyone offer any solutions? I don't know where the resolution has disappeared to! Could a Windows Update be the issue? Its the monitor itself that is the problem. At my job they have a few hundred of this model monitor and for whatever it will just stop displaying 1440x900. We tried forcing the resolution under the intel display properties but the screen would flicker and be distorted.
The monitor is just junk and acer doesnt want to admit a problem. Switching to another of the same model will let you select 1440x900, until that monitor eventually fails. My advise, return it if you can and dont but Acer products. Thanks mirceaGuru, Thank you very muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, this solved the problem;-) I'm so Happyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I restarted the system, mean while I have deactivated DDC / CI from Monitors' Settings Menu, then un-pluged My Monitor from CPU, and when I restarted the OS and pluged the Monitor I found the resolution 1440 x 900. Great Work, I called Acer Service Center too, but they couldn't do anything, just booked my complaint, lets hope they will come to see the problem, that was solved my mirceaGuru:-D Thanks Buddy, Thanks again for the sharing the SOLUTION. I just got one of these, running a 9600 ATI, loaded the drivers linked in this thread and the latest from ATI. I am FLOORED!
Its beautiful, UT 2004 looks sweet, DVD video outstanding! 8) I can't come up with enuff words to describe it.
I would get another. Okay darkchyld. I just purchased an Acer 20' monitor. I have the same common problem. My resolution only goes to 1280x768. I believe I need 1440x900 resolution, at least that's what my Acer 19' monitor is using.
The text is horrible and I'm not getting the full use of my widescreen monitor. Please give me step-by-step instruction for everything I need to do to get my settings correct. Thank you, Summer. Okay darkchyld. I just purchased an Acer 20' monitor. I have the same common problem.

Great Work, - Japan Shah shahjapan@nospam@gmail.com. I tried your solution above.deactivated the DDC/CI, unplugged it from CPU, restarted, and then plugged it in.this did not resolve my problem.
My situation differs slightly. I have two identical ACER P191w monitors, dual monitor setup using VGA cable on the problem monitor and DVI cable on the working monitor.
The setup worked fine for 3 months then the VGA cabled monitor's resolution became distorted and the screen size became too large so I can't access the 'X' button or scroll bar. I switched the monitors to troubleshoot and found that the problem monitor connected to the DVI cable worked fine. The Display Properties setting shows that both monitors are selected for 1440x900 resolution. I'm using an ATI Radeon x300 video driver and Windows XP Pro. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem you mentioned with the DVI connection when I was hooking up my new Acer AL2216W LCD. I finally solved it, I think by using SwitchResX to lower the refresh rate to about 56Hz, instead of 60Hz. At this point, the monitor is working great, and I'm happy with it. One dilemma I have is with the calibration of this monitor; I really had to mess with the colors to get things right, using Apple's Calibration Utility. I still don't know if I have the contrast and brightness settings correct. I have an original Mini - 1.25GHz - and I hacked it to 1.5GHz about 2.5 years ago.
